Chloe Kiara: Health, Wellness & Dating A Giant!
Chloe Kiara, 27, began dating Huddlesfield Giants Half-Back Jordan Rankin in September 2016 and recently swapped the little beach-side suburb in South Sydney where she grew up to travel across the globe settling no where other than... Leeds!
Chloe told GRM "Cronulla [where I grew up] in Southern Sydney is an idyllic spot with a really great lifestyle... think the 'real life' equivalent of Home & Away!"
Earlier this year I discovered Chloe's YouTube channel and I have been hooked ever since! Chloe's channel provides fantastic behind the scenes access into what life of a Super League Player is really like, with fantastic insight into the training patterns and eating habits of seasoned pro's such as Rankin, who has played top-flight rugby league in both the NRL and Super League for 10 years now.
Eddie Hearn recently highlighted the importance of 'raising the profile' of Super League players, and this certainly is a 'breath of fresh air' away from the lukewarm player-profile nonsense you find on other channels (you know who I am talking about!) To put it simply, I believe there is more to a rugby player than a nickname and a 'crossbar challenge'.
Despite my admiration for Jordan's features on the Vlogs, his role is more of a supporting act and Chloe intelligently portrays her own personality and day to day fitness and diet routines. The style of editing is simple and the b-roll is a bit tenderfoot but there truly is something for everyone on Chloe Kiara's channel and I am thoroughly looking forward to seeing how things develop!
I recently caught up with Chloe to discuss things in a bit more depth, and here's what went down!
1. When did you move over from Australia?
"I moved to the UK last August, it all happened pretty quickly (as these things do when it comes to rugby league contracts!). I'm living in Leeds, right in the middle of the city and consider myself a proud Northerner now!"
2. How did you and Jordan meet?
"I met Jordan whilst he was playing in the NRL for Wests Tigers".
3. If Jordan was to describe you using a movie title, which title is he most likely to use?
"She's out of my league - smooth talker"
4. In each of your Vlogs you pull a "card of intentions" from a deck, why do you do this, and which card has been most meaningful?
"The deck was actually a gift from my Mum! I'm a bit of an intuitive, spiritual person and I have a big belief in the power of manifestation. The deck itself encourages you to practice doing 'more' of a positive intention, e.g. 'more mindfulness', 'more laughter', 'breathe more'. As part of our morning routine, Jordan and I both take a deep slow breath and pull a card from the deck to set an intention for the day. Without fail they seem to be applicable/meaningful to the different things that are happening in our lives, but I think the funniest is how often Jordan pulls 'stretch more' after a big day of training or a game!"
5. What's the hardest part about dating a professional rugby player & do you ever get homesick?
" I absolutely get homesick, but how often do you get the chance to live on the other side of the world? I came over here with a pretty fixed mindset - to embrace everything that came with this new experience and make the most of it.
When it comes to the challenges, there's quite a few! The unpredictability of the sport is tough. I often joke about the 'rugby league roller-coaster' because you just never know what's around the corner. Experiencing a loss can be emotionally draining because I become a real nurturer, taking on the responsibility of picking up the pieces and building Jord back up. Watching your loved one play a high impact contact sport is also pretty stressful. I was raised watching rugby league, but I never picked up on the crunching noise two bodies make in a tackle until I started dating Jordan. I hold my breath for 80 minutes every weekend, and hate seeing him battered and bruised the day after a game. However he's living his dream, it's a unique lifestyle with it's perks, and it's a short lived career - so we'll soak it up while we can!"
6. What is "shine theory?"
"Shine Theory was a term coined by Ann Friedman. It's about women being less competitive with each other, and not turning to negative emotions when you meet a woman who is seemingly happier or more successful or more confident than yourself - but rather befriending powerful women, who no doubt have been through their own challenges to be where they are, who have something to teach you, who can assist you in your process of personal growth. It's about celebrating and acknowledging each other's achievements and lighting each other up. I've always been big on the importance of goals, so between frequent goal setting and having a solid support network, I'm always experiencing new waves of motivation and inspiration."
7. How would you sum up your YouTube genre in 3 words?
"It's a unique, insightful and personal look into the health & wellness YouTube genre".
